With reference to my despatch No.262 of the 17th
July in which I recommended the transfer to the Colonial Govern- ment of the land at present occupied by the Victoria Battery, I have the honour to recommend that this area, if ao transferred, be reserved for the use of the University on the understanding set out in the 2nd paragraph of your despatch No.293 of the 20th September, 1913.
2.
I enclose a plan which shows the position of the aite of the Battery. It adjoins the area, within the boundaries, outlined in grey, of the property vested in the University under Section 20 of Ordinance No.10 of 1911, which has been set apart for Students' Quarters.
The second block of these is now under construct- ion and although there may perhaps be enough room within the original area set apart for them for all the quarters that will be required, there is not enough room for quarters for the additional Staff which will be required.
3.
The most natural extension which the configuration]. of the ground allows to the University property and reservations, outlined in red, is the site of the Battery, and I feel sure
that you will agree with me that it would be short-sighted to allow this land to fall into other occupation.
